I would really like to take a beginner's belly dance class, and I'm wondering if there's one near UCF. I looked at Suspira's website, but her studio is 40 miles from my apartment and an 80 mile roundtrip drive is just too much to do every week. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Subject:Art Commissions
Posted by:cowkitty.
Time:11:14 am.
There's a huge lack of original bellydance related art, but I've been trying to draw more dance art. I draw t-shirt designs for my teacher Suspira, and I'm really happy with how they come out. I'm now taking commissions again since I have so much free time. Bellydance costumes and graduate school are very expensive, so it's time to save up. ;)

Particularly, I'm offering the $10 avatar special again-- for just $10, you can have a full color artwork, perfect for avatars or banners.

I hope it's okay to promote this livejournal community here. :)
folkloricdance was created to disscuss a particular niche in the belly dance community -- folkloric dances and music and costume. There are many wonderful bellydance communities and discussion forums, but few about regional and culture specific dances.
Come join the discussion! :)

Yay! So we were a little confused with the major changes in the new club registration paperwork, but it's all sorted out now.

This means that as long as you are an active student paying activity fees, you can "officially" join the club! Sorry for the scare. ^_^; So if you haven't yet, please leave your full name and PID, or e-mail/IM Brandy the info.

We're almost there folks! :D

Hey guys,

I had a question for you. Im in Hillel, its like the big jewish club, lol. Im the religious and cultural coordinator, and i wanted to do an arabic (okay bellydancing) event. basically what would happen is the "instructors" would have a very basic lesson and then we could mess around and play for a bit. I could possibly try to hold this at a restaraunte and offer some munchies and such. Anywho, my question is, would you guys be willing to come out and have some fun? I know there are quite a few very experienced BD out there, and it would really be a very basic lesson. I dont have a HUGE budget, so pay would be sorta weird, and we could work that out, but im gonna be honest, lol, i have no idea how much the rate of pay would be. in any event, i will try to find out, and it should be a shitload of fun either way. If you are interested, just post back, or you can email me at ICHATTER@aol.com and lemmi know :)

OSA says they should have the 2005 club registration form available within the week, so hopefully we'll be able to start the registration process soon!

As soon as the process starts, we can have one meeting in the Student Union before we are officially registered as a club. How does everyone feel about meeting on Monday evening, January 24th? If all goes well, we'll have access to a projector and we can show some sample bellydance instruction videos, performance tapes, etc. I'm going to also make some fliers that everyone can print, pass around, or pin up to spread the word.

Right now, I'm starting to work on a site for the club so we can get up some info and such. I'm trying to figure out the domain name for the site... I guess by default, it should be UCFbellydance.com, but that seems so boring! :) Anyone has any other ideas/suggestions for a site name and/or club name?

Shimmy Knights? XD

I own www.Raqskitty.info, but I don't think it's that good of a name for a club site. I wish I had bought shimmykitties.com instead. :(

As soon as I there's more info, I'll post it. ;)

II think 'm on the verge of buying my first real bellydance costume, but I'm having trouble deciding. I'm leaning purple > copper right now, though I'd want both eventually. What do you think?

Hey Guys,
Im Nikki, ive been bellydancing fo rlike 3 years, though there has been some lapses in my lessons. I love to dance, and until now didnt know there was any community at all...i went to suspiras website, and man, shes kinda pricey. My teacher offered 1X a week for 6 weeks classes for $20...lol...i hope i can afford them. Any info on suspira? ive heard that shes a great dancer, but whats her teaching style? dyou learn specific moves, and mess around, or dyou learn routines? also, i didnt see on her website how long each class was, and in how many classes you could learn a routine?

hi guys!!

im michelle and vice president of the club that is getting started. I've been dancing since I was about five years old. My family is Greek and Turkish...so i've been around dance ALL my life. Since coming to UCF I have been under the instruction of three local teachers (one of which I dont think teaches any longer). I have danced at UCF events before...one a few years ago was for a hillel celebration of Isreal and another was very recently that Orlando Dance Theatre (the performance troupe of Suspira's that I belong to) was a celebration of the countries of Africa. Bellydance, of course, is very big in the countries of Egypt and Morroco.

There is a lot of fusion and incorporation in the dance. There is Latin influence, African influence ect...and each country generally has its own traditional style. For information on bellydancing...one of the best websites out there is http://www.shira.net/ TONS of information, it even translates some songs. I'm looking foward to meeting everyone and getting started. I'm so glad to see a lot of people are interested in bellydancing. It's SOOO much fun, a great workout, and the costumes we get to wear are the best part!

To see some pictures and some good links my boyfriend was kind enough to whip up a quick website at like 2am. So it's nothing flashy or interesting, just a simple little website.

I dance under the name Leyli which in Arabic is like "goes out at night" or something to that effect.

check out the links section

Hi! I just thought I would introduce myself to the community since everyone else has been doing so. My name is Stephany, and I am a junior here. I have never taken dance lessons, but dancing has always been a huge part of my family life, since Hispanic families tend to do alot of it! LOL Bellydancing is something I have found interesting and have always wanted to learn. I hope this club will give me the opportunity to learn more about, and learn the art of it. Thanks! :-D

Hi, I'm Tammy! I had never danced any dance form at all until Aug 2004 when I started taken classes with Suspira. I really enjoy it, even though I'm terrible at it. :) I'm really excited about the club for the chance to meet similar people at similar beginning levels, and grow together. (And have fun doing it!)

I'm 22, work as a web designer/illustrator, engaged, geeky, and I have LOTS of interests, but you can figure it all out from my lj info and web site. :)

My aim name is "Cowkitty XD".
